Fairmont location

SRTS provides 4 safe routes for children to get active by walking and biking to school one day a week during the fall and spring. Children who attend public and parochial elementary schools in Fairmont benefit by exercising with peers in a safe, chaperoned environment. Walkers and bikers are brought to heir respective schools by crosswalk guards and adult volunteers along safe routes. The chaperoned routes will begin at the following locations: Route 1 Corner of Day Street & South Orient (7:45am), Route 2 Begins at the Fairmont Aquatic Park (7:30am), Route 3 Begins at St Paul Lutheran School Playground (7:40am) & Route 4 Begins at Grace Lutheran Church (7:30am). The beginning locations of each route are also designated SRTS Safe Zones. Parents are encouraged to use the drop points to promote walking for fitness and avoid the congestion at Fairmont Elementary School.

Fall/Halloween Watercolor Bookmarks with Caroline Porter - Ages 14 and up (Ages 8-13 accompanied by adult) - Commemorate Fall and Halloween this year by creating these enchanting watercolor bookmarks. Each student will get to paint all three bookmark designs: Scarecrow Fields, Inked Up Pumpkins, and Autumn Botanicals. Instructed by Fairmont artist Caroline Porter, you’ll learn a variety of beginner friendly skills and make bookmarks you’ll want to use year round! This class is perfect for all skill levels. To help students gain confidence, everyone will also get to practice on scrap paper before working on their final artwork. Each bookmark will measure slightly less than 2 x 7 inches in order to fit into the provided cellophane sleeves. The YouTube ``vlogger`` style presentation of the video brings a youthful and high-energy spirit to the program content along with handouts, demonstrations, and additional resources. At the end of class, the students will receive their certification card along with instructions to access a digital copy of the Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Student book. From getting started with your business, to collaborating with parents and children, to key safety, caregiving, and first aid tips, CABS will help set you up for babysitting success. Students must be present for the entire class and complete achievement of the core learning objectives to receive certification valid for two years. Whether it is for an hour after school or several hours a day during the summer, being trusted to be home alone can be a positive experience for a child who is mature and well prepared. This class for children will address several topics relating to being "Home Alone" including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, fire safety, intruders, and first aid tips. Students attend this class independently and should come prepared with a notebook and pen. Parents are encouraged to review the take home information and discuss it with their child. The Fall Rummage and Bake Sale will be held at Martin Luther Jr/Sr High School, Northrop on Thursday, October 16, 4-8 p.m.; Friday, October 17, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, October 18, 8 a.m. to noon. Donations will be accepted beginning Saturday, October 11th until Tuesday. Volunteer helpers are encouraged to sign up at www.martinlutherhs.com under Special Events/Rummage Sale.
