SRTS provides 4 safe routes for children to get active by walking and biking to school one day a week during the fall and spring. Children who attend public and parochial elementary schools in Fairmont benefit by exercising with peers in a safe, chaperoned environment. Walkers and bikers are brought to their respective schools by crosswalk guards and adult volunteers along safe routes. The chaperoned routes will begin at the following locations: Route 1 Corner of Day Street & South Orient (7:45am), Route 2 Begins at the Fairmont Aquatic Park (7:30am), Route 3 Begins at St Paul Lutheran School Playground (7:40am) & Route 4 Begins at Grace Lutheran Church (7:30am). The beginning locations of each route are also designated SRTS Safe Zones. Parents are encouraged to use the drop points to promote walking for fitness and avoid the congestion at Fairmont Elementary School.

Free! Learn to speak English as a second language, conversation, reading, writing, and understanding the American culture. These classes are very informal. Adult learners develop personal learning goals with the instructor. Students are not required to stay for entire scheduled time but may come and go as desired. Classes will follow the District Calendar and not be held on non-school days.

ABE is a program that is available, free of charge, to all adults 17 and older, who are not enrolled in the K-12 school system. Learn English or prepare for the GED Exam. Sponsored by CER and Southwest ABE Consortium. Contact the CER Office (507-235-3141) to learn more about improving your skills.

Taught as a presentation from a certified instructor, you’ll discuss challenges we face as drivers, new road designs, vehicle technology, and updates on current laws. Best of all, there are no written or behind the wheel tests! Certificate will be provided at the end of class.
**8-hour initial class requirement has been removed as of July 1st, 2024. Participants must take 4-hour course to initially earn the discount and then repeat the 4-hour class every three years to maintain the discount. Cost is $24 per participant.
